Oregon is Number 2 in the United States for incidence of breast cancer. Breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed reportable cancer in Oregon. American women have a one in eight chance of developing breast cancer in their lifetimes. Breast cancer is the third leading cause of death from cancer in Oregon. Breast cancer kills more women in the United States between the ages of 20 and 59 than any other cancer. Seventy-five percent of breast cancer cases are in women 50 or older. Early detection is a key element for breast cancer survival. Oregon law now mandates that insurers cover clinical breast exams separate from well-women exams.
